What is a lithophane?
The word “Lithophane” comes from the Greek translation of “appearing in stone”. Ancient cultures discovered they could etch thin porcelain to produce an image when exposed to light. Later in the 17th and 18th century European manufacturers added lithophane designs to their luxury porcelain china products.
